Respect and Etiquette

  • Bow when entering and leaving the mats to honor your training space.

  • Treat instructors, fellow students, and the gym with respect at all times.

  • Maintain a positive and humble attitude; leave your ego behind.

  • Speak and act appropriately while on the mats.

  • Always train in a clean gi or suitable training attire.

  • Keep fingernails and toenails neatly trimmed.

  • Refrain from training if you are sick or have skin infections.

  • Remove footwear before stepping onto the mats.

  • Tap early and tap often to avoid injury.

Community and Conduct

  • Only coach your partner or children if you are a purple belt or higher, or a certified coach.

  • Begin and finish every roll with a handshake or fist bump.

  • Control your movements to prevent harm to yourself or others.

  • Consider your training partner’s experience level and adjust your training accordingly.

  • Wear the correct gi or no-gi attire and all required protective gear.

  • Do not wear jewelry, piercings, or watches on the mats.

  • Politely acknowledge the coach if arriving late.

  • Support and encourage your teammates.

  • Show respect to all gym members.

  • Children must always be supervised by a parent or guardian.
